About me & the brand
Hello! I've been making perfumes since I was a teenager. I started this brand in 2020 and operate it as a hobby that also makes money. I'm currently an undergraduate student working on degrees in business and chemistry.
Something unique about my brand is I manufacture everything myself. A lot of "brands" out there just sell products with an off-the-shelf formula. Kind of like how a lot of some restaurants don't actually make their food, they just heat up pre-made items from suppliers like Sysco. I'm a scratch kitchen- I buy ingredients and turn them into something unique you can't find anywhere else.
What is the inspiration of the brand?
Well firstly I just enjoy creating things, I do it for fun and it's very validating to be able to sell my products as a "brand." Secondly I would say I felt as though there was a market gap I could fill. There's many performance focused cosmetic brands, and there's many perfume brands. I have the skillset necessary to do both. Performance-focused products that smell really good.
What inspires the creation of each scent?
I have no idea. I'm probably the least artistic person ever. I just have this intuition where it's like "hmm this goes with that, and that goes with this." My brain can just connect these little nuances together into perfumes. I have no idea how I developed the artistic ability to do this because I can picture the mona lisa but my hand draws a stick figure. But with fragrance I can imagine the smell of a perfume and innately know how to build it. My friend likened the skill to a chef; "the sauce needs something" and they unconsciously choose the correct spice to complete the dish without being able to articulate how they knew to choose that one.
What does the name mean?
I hate naming things. I'm not artistic or poetic, so I just took the most analytical approach I could. What is language? What is a word? What is a catchy word? I boiled it down to a consonant-vowel-consonant pattern that used hard consonants and had at least one repeated vowel sound. I literally rearranged letters like a casino slot machine until I had something I felt sounded like a brand name. I don't love it but it's kind of stuck over time.
